VAGA, The Visual Arts and Galleries Association

"The visual arts today represent a creative energy as never before." Peter Jenkinson, founding Director, Creative Partnerships (formerly Director of the New Art Gallery Walsall).

The public has voted for the contemporary visual arts with its feet. Tate Modern welcomed 5.25 million visitors in its first year. 250,000 people visited the New Art Gallery Walsall in its first twelve months. 45,000 people, in a period of two weeks, witnessed Michael Landy's work, Breakdown, in a disused Oxford St store and Antony Gormley's Angel of the North, situated on the outskirts of Gateshead, has achieved iconic status. Across the UK visual arts organisations promote the best new, contemporary and modern art - capturing the imagination and touching lives in individual and diverse ways.

VAGA, a membership body, seeks to place the visual arts at the heart of people's lives and at the centre of public policy. VAGA believes in a Right to Art - that everyone has an entitlement to the opportunity to enjoy, encounter, engage with and participate in art and in particular in the art of today.
