Message from the Chair

Three years ago the Association lost its regular Arts Council England funding, and as a result, the VAGA Board agreed to carry on as a membership funded operation on a much reduced scale. Over the past three years, the Association has focussed on two main areas of activity, looking at advocacy and case making, and more recently, planning around professional development particularly in relation to travel and development opportunities for emerging curators and visual arts professionals. The first of these objectives has been progressed in partnership with the Contemporary Visual Art Network.

Following a recent meeting of the VAGA Board, its directors have agreed that a new way forward is required, and the notion of a paid membership organisation alongside and in addition to the Contemporary Visual Art Network is no longer tenable or logical. For this reason, the Board has decided to end VAGA’s status as a charity and as a Company Limited by Guarantee, bringing the Association to an end. These decisions will be progressed with the Charities Commission and with Companies House and during this time, VAGA will cease its normal operations.

I would of course wish to thank all those Members, Employees and Board Members past and present who have contributed to VAGA’s rich history, and look forward to working with you all in new ways going forward.
