VAGA Welcomes Catherine Lampert as Chair [added 11/02]
Catherine Lampert was elected Chair of VAGA at the Association's AGM in November. As Director of the Whitechapel Art Gallery from 1988- 2001 she led a gallery of international standing, bringing work from all over the world to the East of London, Under her Directorship the gallery also established its education and out reach programmes working extensively with local schools and the varied communities of Whitechapel and Tower Hamlets.
She currently works as an independent curator and writer. Most recently she has been responsible for the Frank Auerbach exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, 2001 and an exhibition of work by Nan Goldin, Musée National d’Art Moderne Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris and subsequent tour 2001-2. She is a regular guest lecturer at the Slade School of Art, University of London and Wimbledon School of Art. Her published work includes books on Lucian Freud and on Auguste Rodin.
