VAGA, endorses the principles motivating the restructuring of the arts funding system, with the proviso that the changes deliver less bureaucracy, a stronger more democratic voice for the regions, greater support for artists and arts organisations and strategic change, not only at regional level, but also and importantly, within the Arts Council itself.

The potential for the visual arts to contribute to the health and prosperity of the UK has long been dogged by inequity of provision across the country and lack of an imaginative national strategy responsive to change, innovation and need. Fresh thinking, is currently being applied to the future of museums and collection based galleries, by the Government's Regional Collections Taskforce,[click here for more information] and VAGA looks forward to this being matched by the arts funding system. An integrated approach to the development of the contemporary visual arts can only be to the benefit of artists, arts organisations and audiences nation-wide.
