Strength of Contemporary Art Society Special Collections Scheme on Show in Birmingham’s Water Hall

The opening of the Water Hall provides the first expansion to Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery's permanent display since 1912. It houses the Gallery's growing Modern British and Contemporary collection. Much of this growth is due to an extensive partnership over many years with the Contemporary Art Society. Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery is one of fifteen museums involved in the Contemporary Art Society Special Collection Scheme, which over five years is investing £3.5 million in museum collections throughout England – enabling the participants to purchase contemporary work, and supporting professional development for collections staff. Recent purchases made through the scheme for Birmingham include works by Basil Beattie, Ian Mckeever, Fiona Rae, Callum Innes and Tony Bevan, many of which can be viewed on line, BMAG website.
